You do it naturally. Form an opinion. You buy something new. You try a different bakery. You don’t shop at certain stores and you have very definite opinions about the products and services you use and the places you shop. But are you also getting paid to give your opinion? Is someone reimbursing you for the items you purchase? Then you need to keep reading because I am going to tell you how to change that and help you make easy money doing what you are already doing.

My name is Nick Marks. My wife and I live in a nice neighborhood and drive late model cars. To most people we look like average folks, but not to people like Mrs. Salazar. Mrs. Salazar was my son’s third grade teacher. She’s an energetic and hard working woman. Mrs. Salazar and I spend a lot of time together because my wife and I volunteer at the schools several times a week. One afternoon Mrs. Salazar’s conversation turned rather personal, “I’m sorry for being so direct,” she began, “but I have to ask how you make a living.”

At first I was startled by her question, but as I listened I realized exactly where she was coming from.

Mrs. Salazar had noticed that my wife, son, and I were always neatly dressed and my son was involved in many activities outside of school. “Clearly you aren’t hurting for money,” she told me. “But you’re always available to be here helping out and you have the time to attend every PTA meeting. When I am grading papers late at night, exhausted, I often wonder if you and your wife won the lottery or just got a huge inheritance. Your son just tells people you are in market research. I had to laugh. A few years ago, we started telling people we were in market research because they simply did not believe what we really do to make money. They laughed at us. Our neighbors always eyed us suspiciously. One neighbor even told us that the other neighbors worried we were involved in something illegal. “How else can they live like that?” Our neighbors had been asking. “They never go to work.”
